As a Junior Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of software solutions that support organizations delivering essential healthcare and human services.
You will work across the full stack, with a primary focus on SQL Server databases, queries, and stored procedures that power backend APIs and user-facing applications.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will develop your technical expertise while delivering reliable features, resolving bugs, and improving application performance.
This role offers hands-on exposure to C#, .NET Core, React, and the software development lifecycle in a collaborative engineering environment.
You will gradually take on greater responsibility as you deepen your understanding of the products, architecture, and customer needs.
Your work will directly contribute to the reliability of technology used by organizations serving individuals and communities.
Data security, code quality, continuous learning, and thoughtful collaboration are central to success in this position.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop, test, and deliver well-defined software features and bug fixes across the full stack, with an emphasis on SQL Server queries, T-SQL, and stored procedures.
  • Support the backend services and user interfaces by contributing to .NET Core REST APIs and React-based applications.
  • Write, review, and optimize SQL queries to improve application performance, reliability, and data access efficiency.
  • Follow established engineering standards for code quality, testing, source control, deployment workflows, and maintainable software development.
  • Take ownership of delivered work by monitoring its performance, identifying regressions, resolving bugs, and addressing slow queries or other technical issues.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions, exchange constructive feedback, and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and QA professionals.
  • Follow strict data-handling and privacy guidelines when working with sensitive healthcare information, using mocked or anonymized data for development and testing, including when using AI-assisted tools.
  • Build a strong understanding of the products, customers, and human services domain while progressively taking greater ownership of technical decisions and feature delivery.

Requirements:

  • 1–3 years of software development experience gained through professional employment, internships, academic projects, or personal projects.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience or certifications.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL, including joins, stored procedures, indexes, and the ability to interpret execution plans.
  • Working knowledge of C# and .NET Core, including experience building or consuming REST APIs.
  • A foundational understanding of full-stack application architecture and how data flows from a SQL Server database through a .NET Core API to a React frontend.
  • Basic knowledge of data structures, algorithms, source control tools such as Git, and deployment processes.
  • Demonstrated contribution to a software feature or project, with the ability to explain individual responsibilities and outcomes.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and attention to code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including openness to feedback, willingness to ask questions, and the ability to seek support when needed.
  • An understanding of the importance of protecting personal health information (PHI) and other sensitive customer data in healthcare-related software development.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with database design, normalization, schema changes, migrations, and query performance optimization.
  • Experience with Fluent UI or similar user interface libraries.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.

Benefits:

  • Competitive annual salary: $75,000–$95,000, depending on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other relevant factors.
  • Remote work: Flexibility to work remotely within the United States.
  • Unlimited paid time off: An unlimited PTO policy to support work-life balance.
  • Healthcare coverage: Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings: 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • Paid holidays: Time off to observe holidays throughout the year.
  • Volunteer time off: Dedicated time to support causes and communities that matter to you.
  • Paid parental leave: Support for employees and their families during important life transitions.
  • Remote work stipend: Financial support for remote working needs.
  • Professional development: Hands-on experience across SQL Server, .NET Core, React, performance optimization, secure data handling, and the full software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborative environment: Opportunities to learn from experienced engineers and work closely with engineering, product, and QA teams while progressively expanding your responsibilities.
  • Meaningful impact: The opportunity to contribute to reliable software that helps healthcare and human services organizations better serve their communities.
