How to use it
- Add your details. Enter your name and contact details exactly as they appear on your resume, so the references page matches it. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
- Add each reference. Fill in the name, job title, company, how they know you and their contact details. The second and third references appear only when all five of their details are filled in.
- Copy it into your document. Copy the page into the same document style as your resume, use the same font and header, and save it as a separate file to send when an employer asks for references.

Frequently asked questions
Who should I choose as references?
Pick people who have seen your work closely and recently, such as a former manager, a senior colleague or a client. For your first job, a teacher, coach or volunteer coordinator can speak to your reliability and effort.
How should I ask someone to be a reference?
Ask before you list them, ideally by a short message or call. Tell them which roles you are applying for, send your resume, and remind them of work you did together so they can speak to it with confidence.
Should I put references on my resume itself?
Usually not. Keep them on a separate page and share it when an employer asks. That keeps your resume focused on your experience and lets you choose references that suit each role.
How many references should I include?
Three is a common number and what this template supports. If you only have two strong references, two good ones are better than adding someone who barely knows your work.
Should I let my references know when an employer might call?
Yes. A quick heads-up with the company name, the role and what the employer cares about helps your reference give a clear, relevant answer, and it is a courteous way to thank them for their help.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. This template runs in your browser: the text is filled in on this page as you type, and nothing you enter is sent to Applystead or anyone else. You copy the finished text and use it from your own account.
