Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Certificate Management based in the United States.
Join a security-focused engineering team responsible for building and maintaining critical certificate management infrastructure that underpins secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
In this senior role, you will lead the design and delivery of high-availability cryptographic services supporting internal platforms and external partners.
You will shape long-term technical strategy, translating complex regulatory requirements and ambiguous challenges into robust engineering solutions.
Your work will strengthen security, resilience, and trust across highly critical distributed systems in a zero-trust environment.
As a technical leader, you will drive engineering excellence, mentor experienced engineers, and establish best practices for architecture, code quality, and operational reliability.
Collaborating across Security, Product, and Policy teams, you will help deliver innovative cryptographic solutions with a measurable impact on infrastructure security.
This remote opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer passionate about applied cryptography, large-scale systems, and advancing the security foundations of digital finance.

Accountabilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of critical cryptographic infrastructure, including public and internal certificate management systems.
- Define and execute multi-quarter technical strategies, bringing clarity to ambiguous requirements and developing scalable solutions for emerging cryptographic needs.
- Design, implement, and operate secure, resilient, and highly available services that support certificate issuance, renewal, revocation, and trust-chain distribution.
- Own complex, high-impact engineering initiatives involving secure protocols, private key protection, and infrastructure operating under stringent security and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of mission-critical, distributed systems in a zero-trust environment.
- Establish and promote engineering quality standards through rigorous code reviews, sound architectural practices, and proactive risk management.
- Mentor senior engineers, strengthen technical collaboration, and reduce operational dependencies on individual team members.
- Build alignment with cross-functional stakeholders across Security, Product, and Policy to ensure successful delivery of critical initiatives.
- Apply generative AI responsibly, maintaining appropriate human oversight while improving engineering workflows, efficiency, cost, and output quality.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating highly available distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and applied cryptography, including hands-on experience operating certificate authorities and managing X.509 certificate lifecycles.
- Demonstrated experience automating certificate issuance, renewal, revocation, and trust-chain distribution, as well as securely protecting private keys using Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) or cloud Key Management Services (KMS).
- Extensive programming experience with systems-oriented languages such as Go (Golang), Java, C++, or Rust, with the ability to contribute effectively in a Go-heavy engineering environment.
- Proven experience operating Tier-0 or similarly critical infrastructure, where security, resilience, availability, and low latency are essential.
- A strong track record of leading technical strategy, system architecture, and delivery for complex, large-scale engineering projects.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory and compliance requirements and translate them into secure, maintainable, and reliable technical solutions.
- Strong technical leadership, communication, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment in ambiguous environments.
- Experience using generative AI tools responsibly, applying human judgment and oversight to deliver production-ready results and measurable improvements in productivity, cost, or quality.
