How to use it
- Paste or upload your resume. Paste your resume as text, or choose a .txt, .docx or .pdf file. The file is read in this page and never uploaded.
- Count it. Select Check it to see words, characters with and without spaces, lines, bullet points, estimated pages and reading time.
- Trim or add detail. If your resume runs past two pages, cut older or less relevant detail. If it is under 250 words, add results, tools and scope to your roles.

Frequently asked questions
How many words should a resume have?
Most one-page resumes have roughly 350 to 600 words, and two-page resumes up to about 1,000. The right length depends on your experience: early-career resumes are usually one page, while senior ones often need two.
How are pages estimated?
The counter divides your word count by 475, a typical number of words on a resume page, and rounds to the nearest half page. Your real page count also depends on your template, fonts and margins.
What counts as a bullet point?
A line that starts with a bullet mark such as •, a dash, an asterisk or a small square. Lines without a mark are counted as lines but not as bullet points.
Is my resume uploaded?
No. The counter and the file reader run in your browser. Your resume is not sent to Applystead or anyone else, and nothing is saved after you leave the page.
