Job description
Product Manager, Data & Foundations
Location: Remote. (Eastern & Central time zones only. Some travel required.)
About Us
Clasp is a venture-backed, mission-driven startup transforming access to education and career pathways. We are revolutionizing the way employers attract and retain critical talent and the way colleges and universities support their students through education financing, all while tackling the student debt crisis. (Yep, we think BIG.) We like to think of ourselves as more than a fintech; we're a catalyst for economic mobility.
A Forbes Fintech 50 company, portfolio company of SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management, the world's largest HR professional society), and one of Business Insider's "43 Start-Ups to Bet Your Career On in 2025," Clasp is driven by our commitment to social impact and innovation.
Our work spans two business lines:
Clasp Talent helps healthcare employers attract and retain critical talent by connecting them with diverse candidates and using student loan repayment as a powerful recruiting and retention tool. We meaningfully connect employers, educational institutions, and learners to drive mutual benefit.
Clasp Finance equips colleges and universities with lending technology to launch and operate their own private student loan programs, enabling schools to step in and support their students directly with financial aid. Recent federal financial aid changes are reshaping how institutions think about supporting their students, and Clasp Finance is poised to meet this moment.
Underneath both is the work that connects everything: partner data flowing in reliably, users hearing from us at the right moment and in the right way, teammates with tools that let them do their best work, and data that tells one true story. We need someone to own that work.
Who We Need
Clasp is hiring a Product Manager for Data & Foundations. We want a product manager who gets energy from making everyone around them more effective, and who is just as comfortable digging into an integration spec with engineers as they are rethinking how we talk to our users or helping a teammate get the answer they need from our data. You also need to be excited, not intimidated, by deciding what AI-native tooling and communication should look like at a growing company.
You'll lead two pods: our existing Data team and our new Foundations & Integrations team. Your customers are a mix of internal teams, customers, and end users. You'll keep two engineering teams on track, shape the roadmap with the Director of Product, and work alongside three other PMs across Clasp Talent and Clasp Finance. We're hiring at the PM or Senior PM level, depending on the candidate.
What You'll Do
Roadmap & Delivery
- Run roadmap and sprint planning for the Data and Foundations & Integrations pods, working with two engineering leads.
- Keep both teams focused, unblocked, and shipping. Break large efforts into clear milestones and communicate progress and risk honestly.
- Prioritize. Demand will always outrun capacity, and you'll make trade-offs openly instead of letting the loudest request win.
Data Ingestion & Integrations
- Own how we keep our customers' data in sync with ours, from SFTP file ingestion to full API integrations.
- Make bringing on a new partner faster, more repeatable, and less dependent on engineering heroics.
- Design for what happens when things fail, including validation, monitoring, and clear recovery paths, so problems surface before a partner notices.
- Lead enterprise-readiness work like SCIM provisioning that removes friction for larger partners.
Notifications & User Communications
- Own how Clasp communicates with end users across email, in-product, and emerging channels like AI chat.
- Give teams visibility into what goes out, to whom, and why.
Internal Tools & AI
- Own the tools our teams use to support partners and users, including staff tools, user impersonation, and internal workflows.
- Push for better UAT environments and engineering foundations so every product team can ship faster and more safely.
Data & Reporting
- Partner with our data team to bring data from across the business together into a single source of truth.
- Set the vision for customer-facing reporting and the internal reporting teammates rely on, and make sure both are trusted and acted on.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience. We weight the work heavily over the credential.
- 3+ years in product management (5+ for Senior), ideally on data, integrations, communications, internal tools, or B2B SaaS products. A background in data, solutions engineering, or engineering before product is a plus.
- Technical depth: you're comfortable in SQL, can read a data model, and understand APIs, webhooks, file-based integrations, and auth and provisioning patterns well enough to hold your own in system design discussions.
- Hands-on experience owning or shipping customer or partner integrations (SFTP, APIs, SSO/SCIM, or similar), and a clear view of what makes them scale or break.
- Experience running roadmaps and sprint planning for engineering teams, ideally across more than one team at a time.
- A real partnership with data teams. You understand the modern data stack (warehouses, pipelines, BI) well enough to contribute to migrations, data quality, and reporting.
- Hands-on experimentation with LLMs, MCP, or agents, with a grounded view of where they help in user communications and internal operations, and where they don't.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain a migration plan to an executive and a partner-facing impact to an engineer.
Nice to Have
- Fintech, lending, HR tech, or healthcare experience.
- Experience in a regulated industry where consumer data, consent, and access controls carry real rules.
- Notification or messaging experience (email, in-app, SMS, or conversational AI).
- Building or replacing an internal tools stack at a growing company.
What We Give in Return
- Competitive cash and equity compensation.
- Health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Student loan repayment benefits.
- 401(k) + Match.
- Flexible PTO.
- Opportunities to grow with a fast-moving, mission-driven team.
Salary
The salary range for this position is competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and industry knowledge, ranging between $110,000 to $160,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, we offer an attractive equity component as part of our compensation package, providing an opportunity for eligible employees to share in the success and growth of our company. We are committed to offering competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract and retain top talent.
Work authorization
This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship, now or in the future. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
How we use AI in hiring
Clasp uses AI-assisted tools in parts of our hiring process, such as AI notetakers transcribing or summarizing interviews, scheduling, and supporting evaluation in technical assessments. Humans review applications and make every hiring decision. AI tools don't make final decisions about any candidate. You're welcome to use AI to research Clasp and prepare, but during live interviews and assessments we want to hear your own thinking, so please don't use AI tools that generate or feed you responses in real time. If you'd like to be evaluated without AI tools, need an accommodation, or have questions about how we use these tools, email recruiting@clasp.com and we'll arrange another process where we can.
Equal opportunity
Clasp is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We don't discriminate based on race, color, religion, creed, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, veteran or military status, citizenship status (except as required by law), or any other status protected by federal, state, or local law. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in line with applicable fair chance laws. If you need a reasonable accommodation during the hiring process, email recruiting@clasp.com.
