Farewell email to coworkers

Leaving your job? Add your name and your last day, plus what you are moving on to and how people can reach you. Get a kind goodbye email to send to your colleagues.

Private. Runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves your device.

Optional. A personal email address or where people can find you online.

How to use it

  1. Tell your manager first. Send a farewell email only after your manager and your team know you are leaving, and after any announcement your employer plans to make.
  2. Fill in the details. Add your name and your last day. Add what you are moving on to and a personal way to reach you if you want colleagues to stay in touch.
  3. Send it near your last day. Pick the warm, short or team version, add a personal line for people you worked with closely, and send it a day or two before you leave.

Subject: Thank you and goodbye

Hi everyone,

As some of you know, October 9, 2026 is my last day here. It has been a real pleasure working with all of you, and I will miss our conversations, the shared problem solving and the laughs along the way.

Thank you for your support, your patience and everything you taught me. I am moving on to a new role in product design, and I will carry a lot of what I learned here with me. I would love to stay in touch, and you can reach me at priya.raman@example.com.

Wishing you all the very best,
Priya Raman

Frequently asked questions

When should I send a farewell email to coworkers?

Send it on your last day or a day or two before, once your manager and team already know. That gives people time to reply and say goodbye, while you still have access to your work email.

What should a farewell email include?

A thank you, your last day, a line about what you enjoyed or learned, and a way to stay in touch. You can mention what is next for you, but keep the focus on the people you worked with.

Should I say why I am leaving?

It is not needed. A farewell email is a thank you, not an explanation. If you want to share your next step, keep it to one friendly line, and leave out any complaints about the job.

Should I send one email to everyone or several?

A short email to the wider team or department works well, and a more personal note to the few people you worked with most is a kind extra. Use the team version for a group and the warm version for close colleagues.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The email is filled in on this page, in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Applystead or anyone else, and nothing is saved after you leave the page.
