How to use it
- Add your resume. Paste your resume text or upload the file. Everything is checked in your browser, so your resume never leaves your device.
- Look at the listed lines. Each result shows one line and names the pronouns in it, such as I, my or our. Words inside quotation marks, like an award title, are skipped.
- Start the line with a verb. Drop the pronoun and lead with what you did. “I trained the new staff” becomes “Trained new staff on the payroll system”, which is shorter and puts the action first.
- Keep the ones you mean. A cover letter or a personal statement pasted with your resume will use pronouns on purpose. Treat each result as a suggestion and change only the resume lines that read better without them.

Should I use pronouns on my resume?
Most resumes leave out first-person pronouns as a style convention. Because the whole page is about you, “Managed a team of five” says the same thing as “I managed a team of five” in fewer words. Pronouns are not wrong, but dropping them keeps lines short and starts each one with what you did.
Which pronouns does the checker look for?
It looks for I, me, my, mine, we, our and us as whole words, including I in contractions such as I’m. It skips words inside quotation marks, the i of i.e., and US written in capitals, which usually means the country.
What about we and our in team achievements?
Lines such as “Our team cut costs” hide what you did yourself. Say your part instead: “Cut supplier costs by renegotiating three contracts”. If the result belonged to a team, you can still name the team without a pronoun, for example “Worked with a four-person team to cut supplier costs”.
Can my resume summary use I?
A summary usually reads well without pronouns too: “Bookkeeper with eight years of experience in small retail” instead of “I am a bookkeeper”. Some people prefer a first-person summary, and that is a style choice. Whichever you pick, use it the same way across the page.
