- Add your resume. Paste your resume or upload the file. The dates are read and checked in your browser, so nothing you add leaves your device.
- See which formats you use. The result lists each date style found, such as Mon YYYY, Month YYYY, MM/YYYY, YYYY-MM, a year alone or a season with a year, with one example of each.
- Fix the marked ranges. Check any range that ends before it starts, any range with a start but no end, and current roles that end in different words such as Present and current.
- Pick one style and run it again. Choose one format, such as Jan 2020, and use it for every date on the page. Paste the updated resume to confirm only one format is left.

What is the best date format for a resume?
Any clear format works if you use it everywhere. A short month and a year, such as Jan 2020 – Mar 2023, is easy to scan and fits on one line. Year-only dates are fine for older roles or education, but mixing them with month dates in the same section can look uneven.
Which date formats does the checker recognize?
It recognizes a short month name and year (Jan 2020), a full month name and year (January 2020), a numeric month and year (01/2020), a year and month (2020-01), a year on its own (2020) and a season with a year (Summer 2020). May 2020 counts as whichever month style you use elsewhere.
Why does it say a range has no end?
A line that ends with a date and a dash, such as “Summer 2016 –”, reads as if something was cut off. Add the month or year you left, or write Present if you still hold the role.
Should I write Present or Current for my current job?
Either is fine; what matters is using the same word for every current role. The checker marks a resume that ends one range with Present and another with current, so you can make them match.
