Your results
- Months are counted inclusively: Jan 2019 – Dec 2019 is 12 months.
- Overlapping jobs are merged, so a month you spent in two jobs counts once.
- Present, Current, Now and Today mean the current month. A year on its own starts in January or ends in December.
- Check the dates against your own records, such as offer letters or pay slips, before you quote a total.
How to use it
- Paste your job dates. Copy the jobs from your resume, one per line, each with a start and end date. Job titles and employer names on the same line are fine.
- Use a date format it reads. Write dates such as Jan 2019 – Mar 2022, January 2019 - Present, 01/2019 - 03/2022, 2019-01 to 2022-03 or 2019 – 2021.
- Read your total. See your total experience in months and in years and months, plus the periods counted after overlapping jobs are merged.
- Count only what the job asks for. If a job ad asks for experience in one kind of work, paste only the relevant roles to see how many years of that experience you have.

Is this years of experience calculator free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and runs in your browser, so the dates you paste never leave your device. You can use it as often as you like.
How are overlapping jobs counted?
Once. If you worked two jobs at the same time, the calculator merges the overlapping months so your total reflects calendar time, not the sum of each job. For example, Jan 2019 – Dec 2020 and Jun 2020 – Mar 2022 add up to 39 months, not 45.
How are months counted?
Inclusively, so both the start month and the end month count. Jan 2019 – Dec 2019 is 12 months. A range that ends in Present, Current, Now or Today runs to the current month, and a year on its own starts in January or ends in December.
Should I count part-time jobs and internships?
That depends on what the job ad asks for. If it asks for experience in a kind of work, relevant internships, part-time roles and freelance work can count. Be ready to explain in an interview how you got to your number, and paste only the roles you want included.
How should I write years of experience on my resume?
Round down to whole years, such as 3 years of experience, in your summary or cover letter. Let the dates in your work history show the detail, and keep them consistent so a reader can check your total.
