Sr. Product Manager, Identity & Apply
Santa Monica, CA

We offer a hybrid work environment. Most US-based positions can also be performed remotely (any exceptions will be noted in the Minimum Qualifications below.)
Our Mission:
To actively connect people to their next great opportunity.
Who We Are:
ZipRecruiter is a leading online employment marketplace. Powered by AI-driven smart matching technology, the company actively connects millions of all-sized businesses and job seekers through innovative mobile, web, and email services, as well as through partnerships with the best job boards on the web. ZipRecruiter has the #1 rated job search app on iOS & Android.
Summary:
Every application on ZipRecruiter comes out of two things: what we know about a job seeker, and the flow they go through to apply. The profile holds that knowledge: resume, work history, skills, preferences, and the trade-offs that matter in their job search. The apply flow turns interest in a job into an application an employer can act on. Together they decide how many job seekers who find a job they like go on to apply, and how well each application represents the person behind it.
You will own Product for both. That means deciding what we ask job seekers and when, how we build and keep an accurate picture of each person, and how we get from a job click to a completed, high-quality application with as little effort from the user as possible. The goal is simple to state and hard to deliver: a job seeker should never have to tell us something twice, and every application should show an employer the right reasons to respond.
Few Product roles at ZipRecruiter have more stakeholders. The apply flow is where employer requirements meet the job seeker experience. Employers ask screening questions and rely on applications arriving in their own systems. Trust and safety teams protect the marketplace from fraudulent and low-quality applications. Profile data feeds matching, messaging, and the resume database tools employers use. This is a high-stakes product area where small changes can have outsized impact and there is a huge amount of untapped opportunity for PMs with the ownership and drive to deliver.
Key Focuses:
Act as an Owner: Take full accountability for the job seeker profile and apply flow, from setting KPIs across the funnel to the details of individual screens and questions.
Lead through collaboration: Align employer Product, matching and qualification, trust and safety, platform engineering, mobile, messaging, and legal and compliance partners on a shared roadmap. When their requirements conflict, you will set out the tradeoffs clearly, bring people to a decision, and keep everyone informed as things evolve.
Build the profile job seekers want to keep: Decide what we learn about job seekers, how we learn it, and how we use it to make every later step faster and more accurate. Make the value of a rich profile obvious to the job seeker.
Remove friction from applying: Own conversion from a job click to a started application, and from a started application to a completed one. Know where job seekers drop out, why, and what each question and friction point costs.
Deliver applications employers act on: Partner with employer-side teams on driving application quality, and how applications reach employer systems, so that the most interested and qualified job seekers stand out.
Obsess over your metrics: Apply starts and completions, profile completeness and accuracy, and job seeker retention. You will know how each part of the flow moves them, and you will interrogate the why behind the numbers.
Run on experiments: Design, read, and resolve experiments with judgment about long-term marketplace health, beyond the short-term lift in application volume.
Voice of the Job Seeker: Talk to job seekers, run research, and understand the moment of applying from their side: what they expect, what they will tolerate, and what makes them trust us with their information.
Minimum Qualifications:
Proven Leadership: 5+ years of proven success in product management, with a record of delivering results.
Stakeholder Management: You have shipped products that depended on many teams with competing goals. You build alignment through clear writing, well-framed tradeoffs, and trust, and you are comfortable being the person who drives the decision.
Broad Technical Range: You are equally at home in a design review, an architecture discussion, and a model evaluation. You have strong UI/UX instincts for high-traffic consumer flows, you understand how shared platforms, APIs, and MCPs are built and extended, and you can reason about model quality and failure modes.
Funnel and Conversion Experience: You have owned a high-volume consumer flow such as onboarding, checkout, sign-up, or application, and have improved its conversion through sustained experimentation.
AI/ML Fluency: You have shipped product features powered by machine learning, such as extraction, classification, ranking, or generative assistance, and you know how to evaluate them before and after launch.
Deeply Analytical: You are a data-obsessed problem solver who doesn't just look at dashboards but interrogates the "why" behind the numbers.
Customer Obsession: You have a passion for speaking directly with your users and personally conducting user research.
Self-Motivation: You are highly driven and thrive when given the autonomy to drive massive impact.
Preferred Qualifications
Marketplace Experience: Previous experience at a two-sided marketplace (e.g., jobs, real estate, rideshare), where your work on one side had to account for outcomes on the other.
Profile or Identity Products: Experience building user profiles, account systems, or data collection at consumer scale, including the privacy and consent questions that come with them.
Cross-Platform Delivery: Experience shipping a single product experience across web, iOS, and Android.
Employer Integrations: Familiarity with applicant tracking systems or other B2B integrations, where data you collect must arrive intact in someone else's system.
As part of our team you’ll enjoy:
