How to use it

  1. Paste the whole job description. The questions come only from what the posting says, so include the duties, the team, the tools and anything it says about goals or plans for this year.
  2. Choose the interview stage. A phone screen calls for broader questions about the role and next steps; hiring manager, panel and final interviews call for deeper questions about the work, the team and its challenges.
  3. Pick your favorites. Choose three or four questions you genuinely want answered and write them down to bring with you. Skip any the interviewer has already covered, and listen closely to each answer.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I ask the interviewer questions?

Good questions show that you read the job description, that you are thinking about doing the work well, and that you are choosing this job carefully. They also help you learn whether the role, team and manager are right for you.

Where do the questions come from?

From the job description you paste. The generator is told to base every question on a duty, team, tool or requirement the posting states, and each result is checked so it names no number or employer the posting does not contain.

How many questions should I ask?

Two or three is usually plenty at the end of an interview, more if the interviewer invites them. Bring a few extra in case some are answered during the conversation.

Should I ask about salary or benefits?

These questions leave pay and benefits out. Those are fair topics, but they are often easier to raise with the recruiter or once an offer is close, so the questions here focus on the role, the team and the work.
