How to use it
- Fill in the details. Enter the person's name, where and when you met, and the topic you talked about most. A specific topic reminds them who you are. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
- Pick the right version. Use the after event version for someone you met at a meetup, conference or career fair. Use the after coffee version to thank someone who gave you their time and advice one to one.
- Send it while it is fresh. Copy the email and send it within a day or two, while the conversation is still fresh for both of you. Then keep in touch now and then with a useful article, an update or a quick thank-you.

After an event
Subject: Great to meet you at Harbor Street Coffee on Tuesday
Hi Dana,
It was great to meet you at Harbor Street Coffee on Tuesday. I really enjoyed our conversation about your team's move to a new warehouse system and how you got started in operations, and I have been thinking about it since.
I would love to stay in touch. If you are open to it, I would welcome the chance to continue the conversation over a short call or coffee in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if there is anything I can help with, just let me know.
Best,
Marcus Bell

Frequently asked questions
How soon should I follow up after meeting someone?
Within a day or two is ideal, while they still remember the conversation. A week later is still fine. Mention where you met and what you talked about, so they can place you straight away.
Should I ask for a job in a networking follow-up?
Not in the first follow-up. Thank them, mention something specific from the conversation and suggest staying in touch. Once there is a real relationship and a relevant opening, a direct question about a role or a referral feels natural.
What if they do not reply?
That is common and rarely personal. You have still made a good impression by following up. Wait a few weeks, then reach out again with something useful to them, such as an article on the topic you discussed, rather than simply asking again.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. This template runs in your browser: the email is filled in on this page as you type, and nothing you enter is sent to Applystead or anyone else. You copy the finished text and send it from your own email account.
