How to use it

  1. Enter your hourly rate. Type what you are paid for one hour of work. If you know a daily, weekly or monthly figure instead, enter it and pick that period in the next box.
  2. Set your hours and paid weeks. Enter the hours and days you work in a normal week and the weeks you are paid each year. Leave 52 weeks if your time off is paid, or use fewer if some weeks go unpaid.
  3. Read your pay for every period. The results show the same pay as a yearly salary and per month, twice a month, every two weeks, per week, per day and per hour, so you can set it beside a salary offer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly rate to a yearly salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you are paid each year. At 25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks, that is 25 times 40 times 52, which is 52,000 a year. The calculator does the same sum with your own hours and weeks.

Why does the number of paid weeks matter?

A salary pays you for every week of the year, including paid time off. If you are paid by the hour and some weeks go unpaid, such as unpaid holidays or gaps between contracts, your yearly total is lower. Enter only the weeks you expect to be paid to see a realistic yearly figure.

Is the salary before or after tax?

Before. The calculator works with the gross pay you enter, before tax and any deductions such as retirement contributions or insurance. Your take-home pay depends on your own tax situation and deductions, so check a payslip for the exact amount you receive.

How is biweekly pay different from twice-a-month pay?

Biweekly means every two weeks, which gives 26 paychecks in a 52-week year. Twice a month means two set dates each month, which gives 24 paychecks. The yearly total is the same, but each biweekly paycheck is a little smaller because there are more of them.

Does it count overtime?

No. It converts your regular rate for the hours you enter. If you often work extra hours at a higher rate, work out that extra pay with the overtime pay calculator and add it to the yearly figure.
